FLORIDA...The Sunshine State

Florida is located in the southeastern United States , bordering Alabama to the northwest and Georgia to the north. Much of the state's land mass is a large peninsular with the Gulf of Mexico to the west, the Atlantic Ocean to the east and the Caribbean to the south. Florida was admitted as the 27th U.S. state in 1845, after a lengthy period of European colonization stretching back over three hundred years.

The state has four large urban areas, a number of smaller industrial cities, and many small towns.

Florida is nicknamed the "Sunshine State" because of its generally warm climate, which is subtropical in the northern and central regions of the state, with a true tropical climate in the southern portion. Tallahassee is the state capital, Jacksonvilleis the largest city, and the South Florida metropolitan area is the largest populated area.

The Best time to visit FLORIDA?

To avoid the worst of the crowds, the best times to visit Florida is October to December and early January up until the weeks before Easter, then in April to the end of May. .

The Easter holidays are uncomfortable with crowds, although the weather is better, the busiest is the Christmas period, starting the week before December 25 and lasting trough until 3rd January. Car parks often close by mid morning as they are so full.

The best combination of comfortable weather and smaller crowds is to be had in April, avoiding Easter, and October. However, a few of the main attractions are unaffected by rain, although the roller coasters and water rides will close if lightning threatens. You will be one jump ahead in the queues if you are dressed for the weather, as the crowds thin out when it gets wet. In any event if you are caught out, most of the parks sell cheap, plastic ponchos.

In the colder months, take a few lightweight but warm clothes for early morning queues then, when it warms up later, leave unwanted layers in the lockers provided in the parks.
